Pamela Smith Hill returned to the South Dakota Festival of Books to discuss Too Good to Be Altogether Lost: Rediscovering Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House Books.  To her surprise, Dr. Gervase Hittle, one of her English literature professors at the University of South Dakota, attended her presentation and book signing.

LauraPalooza is the only academic and fan gathering of its kind, celebrating the literary, historical, and cultural impact of Laura Ingalls Wilder, Rose Wilder Lane, and their families.

The painting on the cover of TOO GOOD TO BE ALTOGETHER LOST is by Laura Ingalls Wilder herself. Painted on cardboard in the early 1880s, when she was a teenager in Dakota Territory, it proved extraordinarily challenging to photograph. 

Here’s a glimpse of how this was accomplished, with thanks to photographer Nathan Springer and Tana Melton, curator at the Laura Ingalls Wilder Home Association in Mansfield, Missouri.
